Collection: Robert Stewart Hyndman

Robert Stewart Hyndman (Canadian, 1915–2009) is one of the Ottawa/Gatineau area's most distinguished portrait and landscape artists. Based in Chelsea, Quebec, Hyndman was an Official Canadian War artist during the Second World War. A beloved art teacher, Hyndman taught at the Banff Centre for Art & Creativity (then the Banff School of Fine Arts) between 1964 and 1972 and had a significant impact on Ottawa's art scene as an instructor at the Ottawa School of Art from 1971 until well into his later years in 2007. He received the Art & Heritage Award from the City of Ottawa for his contribution to local culture in 2000.

Our pieces originate from a large private collection of Hyndman's artwork.
